Question: What Projectors do you recommend for Projection?

Answer: During the development and testing phase of the Projection Add-on we used a couple of projectors to see what results would be produced by them. The first of these was the Kodak V600 Zoom, a more traditional projector, something that you would find in any conference/business/educational environment. Ideally this sort of projector would be fixed on the ceiling, as that would eliminate any shadow that you may cause by standing in front of the projector.

The second type of projector we used was the Panasonic PTCW230 and the NEC UM280WG. These two are short throw projectors which allows you to place the projector closer to the wall while still projecting a large image. As the projector is close to the wall this ensures that you will not be creating any shadows whilst shooting. We recommend a short throw projector with DryFire, the most important specification feature is the throw ratio we would typically recommend a throw ratio of 0.5:1 but this will also depend on the size of your room and how large you want your shooting image to be. To show you a typical set-up using projection, we have photos of our demonstration room using the NEC UM280WG projector.

As of December 2013 the Canon LV-8235UST and the Sony VPL-SW536, are new short throw projectors which have similar specifications to our Panasonic PTCW230. You can find more information about them at the Canon website, or at the Sony website respectively by searching for their product name.

There are helpful sites like Just Projectors, Projector Central and Projector Point, which provide information about what image size projectors can produce from a given distance.

*1 When Standby mode is set to Eco, network functions such as standby on via LAN are not available. Also, only certain commands can be received for external control using the serial terminal.
